ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the value of tricuspid annular displacement (TAD) in evaluating right ventricular systolic function by speckle tracking imaging. Methods Forty healthy people (RVEF >50%) and forty five patients(RVEF <50%)were enrolled in this study. The apical four-chamber view was obtained and tricuspid annular midpoint displacement (TADmid) were measured by speckle tracking imaging.Right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF) was measured by three-dimensional echocardiography. The correlation of tricuspid annular midpoint displacement (TADmid) and right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF) was analyzed. Results These was statistical significance of tricuspid annular midpoint displacement between healthy people (RVEF > 50%) and patients (RVEF < 50%) (t = 7.28,P < 0.01).There was positive correlation between TADmid and RVEF (P < 0.01).The correlation coefficient between TADmid and RVEF was 0.76 (P < 0.0l).The cut-off value of TADmid for RVEF > 50% was 9.7 with a sensitivity of 72% and a specificity of 86%.Conclusions TAD by speckle tracking imaging showed an excellent correlation with RVEF.Tricuspid annular displacement by speckle tracking imaging was a simple and easy method, and it might be a new index in assessing right ventricular systolic function in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To seek the effect of CO2 laser-assisted uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (LAUP) of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).@*METHOD@#Patients with OSAHS confirmed by polysomnography (PSG) were chosen. Ninety-six patients were completed PSG studies of more than 6 months after CO2 LAUP.@*RESULT@#The 96 patients' follow-up period was 6 months, 29 cases were cured; 34 cases had notable effects; 13 cases had effects; 20 cases had no effects. The effective rate was 79.17% (76/96).@*CONCLUSION@#Application CO2 LAUP is a safe and effective treatment method for OSAHS.

ABSTRACT

The effects of cardiomyocyte grafting on left ventricular (LV) remodeling and function in rats with chronic myocardial infarction were evaluated using high-frequency ultrasound. Chronic myocardial infarction was induced in 50 Wister rats by ligating the left anterior descending artery. They were randomized into two groups: a trial group that received neonatal rat cardiomyocyte trans- plantation (n=25) and a control group which were given intramyocardial injection of culture medium (n=25). The left ventricular (LV) geometry and function were evaluated by high-frequency ultrasound before and 4 weeks after the cell transplantation. After the final evaluation, all rats were sacrificed for histological study. The results showed that 4 weeks after the cell transplantation, as compared with the control group, the LV end-systolic dimension, end-diastolic dimension, end-systolic volume and end-diastolic volume were significantly decreased and the LV anterior wall end-diastolic thickness, LV ejection fraction and fractional shortening were significantly increased in the trial group (P<0.01). Histological study showed that transplanted neonatal rat cardiomyocytes were found in all host hearts and identified by Brdu staining. It was suggested that transplantation of neonatal rat cardiomyocytes can reverse cardiac remodeling and improve heart function in chronic myocardial infarction rats. High-frequency ultrasound can be used as a reliable technique for the non-invasive evaluation of the effect of cardiomyocyte transplantation.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To provide anatomic data for management of pterygopalatine fossa lesions via endoscopic transnasal approach. Methods: Fifteen(30 sides) formalin-preserved human skulls were subjected to microsurgical dissection to evaluate the exposure scopes of 3 different endoscopic surgery approaches: endonasal middle meatal transpalatine approach, endonasal middle meatal transantral approach, and endonasal inferior turbinectomy transantral approach.Meanwhile,20(40 sides) dry skulls were dissected and the related measurements were obtained. Results: The 3 approaches allowed for different exposure of the pterygopalatine fossa structure. The mean distances from foramen rotundum to anterior nasal spur, superior orbital fissure, and optic canal were(61.86?3.67)mm,(3.56?0.75) mm,and(11.23?1.24) mm,respectively. Conclusion: The 3 endoscopic approaches are safe and effective for resection of different pterygopalatine fossa lesions and foramen rotundum serves as a landmark for safe management of the pterygopalatine fossa.
